But it's still lovely, especially if you aren’t jumping back and forth between this and an OLED screen. I have to say, though, that the OLED screen on the latest model of the Nintendo Switch has spoiled me on handheld screens, and the Steam Deck doesn't live up to the vibrance and clarity afforded by Nintendo's latest update. I have no complaints about the resolution – at this screen size there’s a diminishing return on packing in extra pixels. The Steam Deck’s LCD screen runs at 1200x800 at 60Hz, and it looks really good. It's nice to feel safe holding onto something so expensive, and you probably wouldn’t want to have a young kid play with it very much anyway. The grips on either side bulge out at the edges, making it much more comfortable to hold in my adult-sized hands than a Nintendo Switch. The case is a matte black with a subtle texture to it, somewhat rougher than an Xbox controller, and it feels good to the touch. There are only two colors: black, and touches of light-gray. I wouldn't call it a particularly attractive piece of tech, but it has a futuristic industrial look that fits in well with the overall Steam aesthetic. Still, the Steam Deck isn’t uncomfortable to hold, and it’s not like my arms got tired from holding it for a couple of hours. There’s no way it’s going to fit in a pocket. The size difference is enough that going back to my Switch after using the Steam Deck exclusively for a few days makes the Switch feel like a microconsole. It’s 11.7 inches from end to end, which is more than two inches longer than a Switch, and at 1.5 pounds it’s quite a bit heavier. I like the game, I just haven't been in the mode to grind it when I could wait for the expansion and then just roll into the new content as I shake off the rust and get back into my HBG groove. As you've already seen from the memes, the Steam Deck is pretty massive. Hell, I 'beat' Rise on switch back when they 'finished' the story and have not picked it up since. Im sure there are a lot more niche ones, but I think these are mostly the main ones that are keeping twice as many playing World. These would be the 5 most reasonable excuses I can come up with. Incase you missed it in the last reason MODS!
LARGER THAN LIGHT STEAM PC
Monster Hunter World was the first global released PC Monster Hunter game, which instantly pulled a large crowd excited to both enjoy modding AND play a franchise that has been on consoles its whole life (minus the online game in japan) on their more powerful PC's built to play high graphic games. Those numbers will raise a bit closer to/at release. Those who have not finished Rise might have stopped (or avoided buying it) waiting for the expansion so they can do it all at their pace, instead of having to put the game down "right when it started getting good". Just look at other posts on this subreddit and you will see a LOT of older game and people cheering for people playing them.
As such, many people are probably on World because they did everything in Rise and are playing their game. It is a franchise where you enjoy playing them until you hit a wall/need a break from it and then hop over to a version you enjoy more. Monster Hunter is not a game where you play the most recent game because it is the most recent.
Many of them don't like the graphics in Rise and enjoy World more. Monster Hunter World has been around for a LOT longer than Rise, it has a dedicated player group that has been wanting to play monster hunter on the PC for ages.
